Unzipping Purchased SVG Cutting Files in Windows

Zip Files

You’ve purchased cutting files off the internet, and you’re not sure where they have downloaded to, or the files wont open in Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio. As a seller of cutting files myself, most of the time it’s because the files need to be unzipped.

Most downloads these days come in a zipped format, don’t worry I’m not going to bore you with the ins and outs of what a zipped file is. I’m here to show you how to use those awesome cutting files you’ve just purchased.

Navigate to the downloads folder on your computer, usually found under ‘This PC’ or the folder where your downloads are saved to.

Right click on the file you have just downloaded, and select ‘Extract all’.

A box similar to the box below will appear, this is asking you where you would like your files to be extracted to.

Click on the browse button, and navigate to where you want the files to go. (If you haven’t already, I suggest creating a folder for all your downloads, that way it keeps them all together in one place, you can even categorise them if you want)

I have created a folder called free files which I have chosen for my file to go. Click on Select Folder, the box on the left will re-appear with the destination of the folder you have just selected. Click Extract.

The folder you’ve extracted the files too will open and your files will be ready to use.

That’s it, you have successfully unzipped your downloaded files.

Another point I would like to make is; if you open the files via the folder the file will open up like a ‘photo’ in a web page. This is normal, in order to use it for it’s intended purpose you will need to open it in your cutting software.
